The menorah and the Star of David are the customary and ancestral symbols of Judaism. The Chanukkiyah, as the nine branched menorah is known, was created solely for use in conjunction with the Jewish Hanukkah holiday. All of the surrounding candles are lit by the center candle or Shamash. The miracle of single day's supply of lamp oil burning for eight days following the revolt of the Jewish people against the Seleucid monarchy is represented by the eight surrounding candles.

Used in the Temple in ancient days the standard menorah is a seven branched candelabrum. The Hanukkah menorah, lit during the eight day Hanukah holiday, on the other hand has nine branches. Among Jewish ceremonial articles the menorah is the one of the most widely recreated.

This beautiful menorah has a lovely antiqued finish and stands about 16. 5 inches tall and is roughly 17 inches wide and stands on a rectangular base that is about 13 inches long and 3 3/4 inches wide. The base for the candles is approximately 1 inch in diameter. Simplistic in design, this menorah makes a wonderful show piece to be used during Hanukkah and displayed all year round.
