A dive helmet is traditionally designed with the purpose of protecting a diver as they perform tasks underwater. Helmets are designed to protect the diver's face, protect the diver from the potentially hostile underwater environment, allow the diver to communicate with the surface, and of course, breathe.
The United States Navy began to engineer diving system and develop diving technique standards in 1912. These standards were implemented in the form of the Mark V Diver Helmet, which proved to be instrumental. All of the elements of the Mark V helmet can be interchanged, so it was actually manufactured by a variety of companies. Every naval collection would look wonderful with a Mark V Diver Helmet display piece.
