The theodolites used to map the National Parks of America are reproduced in the details of this antique finished item. With the telescope parallel to the ground, this attractive exhibit piece is about 10" tall.
The theodolite of today is comprised of a mounted telescope that swivels horizontally and vertically. Exceptionally precise measurements were calculated for the development of topographical maps by surveyors aligning the compass both vertically and horizontally. The theodolite significantly increased the accuracy of topographical measurements.
This item is a unique display item. It is also a wonderful tool for illustrating the functions of a theodolite.
