This aluminum porthole window features an elegant dark brown finish and has realistic rivets surrounding the perimeter, the porthole is fully functional. Each piece is unique and may have surface irregularities and variations of finish color which gives it it's individuality. The approximately 9" diameter porthole surrounds an approximately 5 1/4 " beveled glass window.
Hung on a wall they make an excellent conversation piece and they can also be used as a hanging picture frame. A restaurant actually had a contractor, using his expert fabrication skills, create a window to the outside of the restaurant by installing the porthole in a wall.
The original use of a porthole was as a small window to provide entry for light and air into the hull of a ship. this greatly helped dispel the dark, dank atmosphere in below deck quarters. Rather like a convertible, portholes allow crew members and passengers alike to enjoy fresh air and sunlight when weather permits while still providing water proof and air tight conditions during a storm.
