These old fashioned weight systems, which were essential tools for pharmacists, use a specific scale. The calculations used by apothecary scales have been mostly replaced by the metric system.
This beautiful brass balance beam of this scale is about 6.5" high; the wooden box with a blue velvet lining is about 7.5" long and about 4.5" wide. Intended for decorative purposes only, this one of a kind scale should not be used for weight measurement. There are a few slightly defective latches on the box. By unscrewing the center of the lovely balance beam, you can easily disassemble it and store it in the box.
