These Port and Starboard oil lamps are made of brass and stand about 10" tall. With the handle extended, they are almost 14" tall. These replica lanterns are finished to look antique. Each lantern is outfitted with hinged doors, decorative rope wicks, and hanging loops.
Large ships have always used these individual green and red lights on the side of the vessel at night so other ships will know where they are. The starboard lamp is the one with the green glass lens, which the red window glass lens designates the port lamp. The words "Starboard" and "Port" are used when referring to each side of a ship. Port signifies the left side, while starboard if for the right. These are meant for display purposes only. Oil should not be burned in them.
